Section 1:

Trail Description

This section of the Allegheny Trail begins at the Pennsylvania border and traverses a diverse range of terrain before reaching the scenic overlooks of Coopers Rock State Forest. Hikers will experience everything from dense hardwood forests to expansive ridgeline views while following historic routes through northern West Virginia. Numerous camping opportunities are available throughout the section, and water sources are generally reliable, though all water should be properly treated. This portion of the trail is especially known for its vibrant spring wildflowers and colorful fall foliage.
